Human Cities Festival 2010
Micronomic

City Mine(d) is an international network of individuals and collectives involved with city and local action. By means of arts projects, campaigns and debate, City Mine(d) puts current themes from neighbourhood to the European level on the public and political agenda and offers a framework in which experience, contacts and information can be shared.

Urban and economic development are not only achieved through official agencies, but also small, temporary and informal intitiatives of you and me contribute to a positive dynamic.

WHAT IS MY JOB WHEN I CREATE PUBLIC GOODS?

Since 2006, City Mine(d) with a wide range of artists, architects, urban initiatives, social economy specialists, informal and professional networkers … devote themselves to the issue of economic paradoxes in Brussels. Under the banner MICRONOMICS, we look for answers at the micro scale. After four years, we have brought together a wealth of micro-initiatives, who are actively building an urban micro-economy (an economy that is fair to those who take part in it and that is at the heart of the way our cities are shaped). The month of May will be stage #3 leading in November to a Forum about City, Economy and Governance from the bottom up. What could be better than to build a tool that is useful for manifestations in public space like this Forum? What could be better than to use all different types of know-how we have come across with Micronomics, and that gives us an opportunity for testing, teaching, showing, and yes, showing off those skills. It will be a social, intelligent, fun and functional tool.

Therefore we propose to create a mobile and modular kitchen, together with active citizens, creators, artists, militants, activists, open access web geeks, engaged researchers, eco-techno-builders, urban gardeners, architects, DIY-ers, inventors, or just those motivated …

During the first 3 weekends of May we will be present in public space, and we will call upon local and international connections. Don’t make other plans for the May-weekends, Micronomics needs you! Call, calendar and location soon to be found on www.citymined.org.
